Answer from Our Team

It's clear how much you love your dog, and we understand that vet bills can be hard. Unfortunately, the most effective mange treatments are prescription medicines, and mange is easy to confuse with fleas, allergies, ringworm and skin infections, so it's important to get the right diagnosis rather than guessing.

There are often lower-cost ways to get that help. Try a local humane society or animal shelter, which may run low-cost clinics or know who does; a veterinary school, if one is nearby; and community or nonprofit vet clinics. You can also call your regular vet, explain your budget, and ask about lower-cost options or a payment plan. Modern chewable treatments are often given once and repeated a month later, so treating mange may cost less than you expect.

Please don't try livestock ivermectin, motor oil, bleach or other household chemicals; these can poison or burn your dog. Home remedies such as olive oil aren't proven to cure mange. Read more about how mange is diagnosed and treated.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
