Young Lab's Eye Looks Infected and Is Oozing

Reader Question
So we have a white english lab he is a year old he has droopy eyes to begin with but the one looks infected and is oozing and is flipped to the back of his head. we don't know wat happened but wat should we do i need help fast so if its bad we can go to the vet? thank you

Answer from Our Team

Yes, please see a vet. An eye that oozes discharge and looks abnormal needs an exam, and if the eye is squinted shut, cloudy, bulging, or he's pawing at it, go the same day. Labs with droopy lids can have eyelid shape problems that trap debris and cause recurring infections.

Until then, gently wipe away discharge with a cotton ball soaked in lukewarm water and stop him rubbing the eye.

Our page on dog eye infections lists the warning signs.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
