Reader Question
Our dog is 17 month old husky. He has three almost hairless spots on his side, they are from a half inch to an inch & half in diameter. He a a few very small on his face that are slightly darker than his white face.

Answer from Our Team

Round hairless spots in a young dog can be caused by ringworm, demodex mites or a bacterial skin infection. In Huskies, scaly, crusted patches with hair loss around the eyes, mouth, chin or ears can be a zinc-related skin condition, which often first appears in young adults.

Your vet can test with skin scrapings, a fungal culture and cytology. Most of these are very treatable.
