Will Hair Grow Back After a Wart Is Removed?

Reader Question
My French bulldog had a wart removed off of his head. The scab fell off tonight and he now has a bald spot. Will his hair grow back? And is there something I can put on the area to help?

Answer from Our Team

In most dogs, yes. Once the skin has healed, the hair usually starts to grow back over a few weeks to a few months. If the removal went deeper, or used freezing or a laser, a small patch may stay thinner or leave a small scar, but that doesn't affect his health.

For now, keep the spot clean and dry and stop him scratching or rubbing it. Please don't put human creams or ointments on it unless your vet says to, because dogs lick them off and some can irritate healing skin. Call your vet if the area becomes red, swollen or sore, oozes or bleeds, or a lump grows back. If the wart was sent to the lab, ask for the result.
