What Happened When My Dog Died Suddenly From Internal Bleeding?

(Richmond, VA)

Reader Question
I want to understand why my male mature cocker died. He had two forms of cancer: inoperable mast cell tumors and something spelled similar to humangiocarcinoma. the last day, I was in the dentist and Forrrest was in the car. I returned to find him lookingin week.; his tongue, mounth guns very pale. I called my vet loved that man) who said to bring him straight away, this was tragic. I recall him saying in the office that something had burst and my dog was bleeding internally. Can you help me piece this together. It would help me put my heart and mind at rest. My vet passed unexpectedly lat summer and don't know who to ask.

Thanks for your help.

Answer from Our Team

We're so sorry for the loss of Forrest. The cancer you're thinking of is very likely hemangiosarcoma, a cancer of blood vessel cells that often grows in the spleen or heart. These tumors are full of blood and can burst without warning, causing sudden internal bleeding. The pale gums and weakness you saw are classic signs.

Often there is little or no warning beforehand, and nothing you did caused it. Your vet's quick response was the right one. We hope understanding what happened brings you some peace.
