Vomiting Corgi: Blockage or Tumor?
by Debi
(montreal)
Two days ago he started vomiting again and i took him to vet right away. I got a pescription again for the same medication and took him home . The next morning he was not any better and took him back to the vet.He was put on fluids, xray and now the barium . The xray just showed enflamed stomach and alot of gas build up . The barium test showed the barium clumping in the stomach after 2 hours . The vet has given me 2 scenario--a blockage which they cannot see or a cancer tumour. the next step has to be surgery .
what ido not really understand is that is he has been fine , no loss of weight or appetite til now and blood test are ok and not lethargic at all--can this really maybe cancer?
any other suggestions
Please let me know asap
Barium that stays in the stomach suggests something is stopping the stomach from emptying. In a dog of his age, a swallowed object or a non-cancer problem with stomach emptying is common, though a stomach tumor is possible. Being otherwise bright, with normal blood tests and no weight loss, is encouraging.
Surgery or endoscopy is often both the diagnosis and the treatment: the vet can remove a blockage, and take biopsies if they find a mass. Ask your vet whether an ultrasound or endoscopy first would add useful information, but if he keeps vomiting, can't keep water down or becomes weak, don't delay surgery or further tests.
