Reader Question
We found this little puppy lost, walking on the street and soon after found out that it was dropped off at a neighbors house. The neighbor didnt want it, so we took it in. The puppy is about 4 weeks to 6 weeks old. We took it to the vet to get it checked out but unfortunately its labor day and couldnt further help us without getting x rays. Puppy has been panting heavily since we brought it home, severely dehydrated and has not woken up since we brought it home. We are animal lovers and have a puppy chihuaha and two cats. I want to save this puppies life but at the same time dont want my animals to get any thing form her. PLEASE HELP!!

Answer from Our Team

A very young puppy who is dehydrated, panting and won't wake up is critically ill. Low blood sugar, low body temperature, dehydration and infections such as parvovirus are possible. Please take him to an emergency vet right away; holiday emergency clinics can help.

Keep him warm and away from your other pets until he's been checked, and wash your hands after handling him. Don't force water into his mouth if he isn't awake, as he could inhale it.

See dog panting for emergency signs.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
