Reader Question
Our dog is 17 years old, male poodle. He's almost blind, death and more than half his teeth fell out. He has been vomiting and diarrhea for three days. He didn't even eat this morning. We only feed them once a day, Our female is 15 years old and I think she has arthritis, her back legs take a minute before she could acctually walk. Could these be signs of old age.

Answer from Our Team

Three days of vomiting and diarrhea and refusing food are not normal signs of old age, and in a 17-year-old dog they can quickly lead to dehydration. Please take him to a vet today. Kidney disease, liver disease, pancreatitis, infections and tumors are among the possible causes at his age, and many can be treated or managed.

Stiffness when your older dog first gets up does often come from arthritis, and pain relief can make her much more comfortable. Ask your vet about it at the same visit.
