Unidentified Growing Lump on a German Shepherd's Leg

Reader Question
Buddy, German Shepherd, 9 years old, male, right from leg had a lump for a number of months. I noticed it grew to the pictured situation, went to the vet, shaved the area, and was told they did not know what it was. Would you please identify the lump for what it is. I love Buddy and would appreciate knowing how to help him.

Answer from Our Team

It isn't possible to identify a lump from a photo. If your vet couldn't tell, the next step is to sample it with a needle aspirate or biopsy, which will give a diagnosis.

Since it has been growing, please ask for that test soon, or ask for a referral.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
