Two Reddish Bald Patches on a Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Bald patches that appear in a few days and look red and sore are often a bacterial skin infection, a hot spot, demodectic mange or ringworm. Allergies can also cause sudden sores from licking or scratching.
Your vet can find the cause quickly with skin scrapings for mites, cytology for bacteria and yeast, and a ringworm test. Staffies are prone to both demodectic mange and allergies, so testing matters. Ringworm can spread to people, so wash your hands after touching the patches until it's ruled out.
