Two Dogs With Low Energy, Poor Appetite and Heavy Thirst

Reader Question
Hi,

I have 2 dogs: Khloe a blue healer she is 6 years old and Duchess our little cavapoo princess, and she is 7 years old.

My boyfriend and I believe all of us are victims of Mercury poison!

Both dogs but Duchess especially have changed in their behavior.

Examples of questionable behavior; no energy to play, sleeps all day, lack of appetite, always thirsty and drinking large amounts of water all day. Duchess seems to be constantly licking the air and her mouth!

Please help direct us so we can get them taken care of right away!

Answer from Our Team

Low energy, poor appetite and drinking large amounts of water need a vet visit soon. Possible causes include kidney disease, diabetes, infections, liver disease and hormone disorders such as Addison's or Cushing's. Constant mouth and air licking can also mean nausea.

If you're concerned about mercury or another toxin, tell your vet what exposure you suspect so they can test appropriately, and see your own doctor too. Blood and urine tests are the starting point for both dogs.

See adrenal gland problems in dogs.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
