Toy Poodle With Struvite Who Seems Allergic to Her Urinary Diet

Reader Question
My toy poodle has urinary struvites. The vet tried treating her with Hill's Science Diet c/d dog food to alter her urinary ph to between 5 and 6 in hope of getting rid of the struvites. It worked for that purpose, but Pixie seems to be allergic to it. Do you have a urinary tract dog food that will alter her ph appropriately? If so, can you give me information on it? Please reply to my email address

Thank you.

Answer from Our Team

Several companies make prescription urinary diets, including some designed for dogs with food sensitivities, so ask your vet about alternatives. Don't stop the diet on your own if she still has stones, as dissolution depends on it. Contact your vet right away if she has facial swelling, hives or vomiting.

Your vet can also tell you whether she needs a dissolution diet now or a prevention plan, which may be gentler. Extra water helps either way.
