Tibetan Terrier With Hypothyroidism: Will She Recover?

Reader Question
Tibeten Terrier 4 years old only been in season twice. Classic signs of thyroid probs recently diagnosed hair loss weight gain ear problems..... will I get my dog back to condition once stabalised on the correct dosage? Should I have her spayed?

Answer from Our Team

Yes, most dogs do well once treatment is right. Energy usually improves within a few weeks, while hair, skin and weight can take up to 3 months. Tibetan Terriers are among the breeds most prone to hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism can affect heat cycles. Discuss spaying with your vet once she's stable; it's generally fine for hypothyroid dogs and avoids breeding a dog with a condition that may run in families.
