i was cleaning my shoes with clorox in my room. and my dog came in. i guess the fumes went to his eye, and now its swollen and its twitching? What do i do?

Answer from Our Team

Bleach fumes and splashes can irritate the eye. Flush the eye gently with plenty of lukewarm water or sterile saline for 10 to 15 minutes, and keep him out of the area.

A swollen, twitching eye means it's sore, so please call your vet. If any liquid bleach got in the eye, or he's squinting, the eye looks cloudy or he's pawing at it, go the same day, because chemicals can damage the cornea.

Our page on dog eye infections lists the warning signs.
