Sticky Rash on a Young Lab's Belly

Reader Question
My 8 month old lab has had this rash on her belly for a week. She licks it only occassionally, and it seems sticky to touch. It doesn't appear to be improving at all, but it hasn't spread. She is very healthy, but periodically gets giardia. She is not onany medication. Her general disposition is fine. She is active and is eating well. Haven't changed diet, routine or visited any new places recently. Any ideas?

Answer from Our Team

A sticky, slightly moist rash on a puppy's belly is often puppy impetigo or a superficial bacterial infection, and yeast is also possible.

Ask your vet for a quick swab test. These usually clear with a medicated shampoo or wipes.
