Spreading Rash Under a Young Dog's Hind Leg

by Suzanne

Reader Question
My 8 month old Golden/Lab mix developed this rash under her hind leg. She does not seem to be licking or scratching it. We noticed it yesterday and it seems to have spread more today.

Answer from Our Team

A spreading rash in the groin of a young dog is often puppy impetigo, a superficial bacterial infection or a contact irritation.

If it keeps spreading, have your vet take a quick swab. These usually clear with a medicated shampoo.
