Small White Pimples Under the Chin and Chest

Reader Question
My 6 year old King Charles Cross, has a number of small white pimles on his skin, under chin, and chest. They do not cause him any irritation. I noticed one or two months ago, not there are more and a few are crusted/look inflamed.Thankyou.

Answer from Our Team

Small white pimples under the chin can be canine acne, an inflammation of the hair follicles there, although acne usually starts in young, short-coated dogs, so infection is at least as likely at his age. On the chest, white pimples are often a staph infection of the hair follicles (folliculitis). When they crust and look inflamed, that usually means infection is developing.

Your vet can confirm the cause with a quick skin test (cytology). Treatment is usually topical, such as benzoyl peroxide or chlorhexidine products. Don't squeeze the pimples, since that can spread infection. Gently wiping his chin clean after meals may also help.

See pimples and bumps on dogs and pyoderma (staph infection).

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
