Answer from Our Team

Small round spots of hair loss scattered over the coat are most often caused by something that inflames the hair follicles. The usual causes are a bacterial infection (folliculitis), demodectic mange or ringworm. This patchy pattern is different from alopecia X, which causes even, symmetrical thinning in Pomeranians.

Your vet can usually find the cause with skin scrapings, cytology and a ringworm test. Ringworm can spread to people and other pets, so wash your hands after handling him until it's been checked.
