it just seems to move around..like an eye booger
Reader Question
My three year old male Yorkie has a small red tissue located in the inner corner of his eye. I take him to his yearly exam and so far, he's always received a clean bill of health. I noticed this red tissue? on Saturday and have since then been monitoring it, hoping it'd go away, but its still there. Not better or worse, just there. He hasn't scratched it or bothered with it. It seems like an eye booger, but seems to have the consistency of tissue. Also, its just floating around, its held on by a small string of tissue. No pus, or any type of liquid discharge has occurred. He sees fine from this eye, because I tested him by playing with him on the side where the damaged eye is located and he sees just fine. I'm the one who is concerned, do I leave it alone, or should I take him to the vet? Ive seen pictures of Cherry eye and this looks NOTHING like it. Ive included pictures to get a better opinion.
Answer from Our Team
Since it has stayed the same for days and doesn't seem to bother him, it's not an emergency, but it's worth a vet visit. A small tag of tissue attached by a stalk could be a growth from the third eyelid or eyelid edge, a piece of misplaced skin, or dried mucus stuck to the surface. Only an exam can tell.
Don't pull at it. If he starts squinting, rubbing the eye or developing discharge, see your vet sooner. Small growths in this area can often be removed simply.
See cherry eye in dogs for what cherry eye looks like.
