Small Dog Hasn’t Pooped for 30 Hours After Diarrhea Medicine

A day or so without a bowel movement after diarrhea is common, especially after anti-diarrhea medicine, which slows the gut, and while she's eating a bland diet that leaves little stool. If she's bright, eating and drinking, it's usually fine to wait.
Call your vet if she hasn't pooped within 48 to 72 hours, or sooner if she strains, vomits, stops eating or seems lethargic. For the future, please check with your vet before giving over-the-counter anti-diarrhea products: loperamide can be dangerous for dogs with the MDR1 gene mutation, common in herding breeds such as Collies and Australian Shepherds, and bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) contains an aspirin-like drug and turns stool black. Doses for small dogs also need care.
