Shih Tzu With Blood in Stool and a Possible Intestinal Cancer
by Maureen
The doctor now says theres a 80% chance she has cancer. Can I assume she has cancer ? In the past week there has been no more blood in her stool.
The doctor says she needs a biopsy to make sure if its cancer.
She also has a bladder problem. She sometimes pees without even noticing. The doctor said that there is no guarantee on a bladder operation.
Can anyone out there help me, I love my little Tippy!
We understand how worrying this is. An X-ray finding and a high suspicion from your vet aren't a diagnosis. A biopsy, often guided by an ultrasound or done with an endoscope, is the only way to know whether it's cancer, and some causes of thickened intestines, such as inflammatory bowel disease, are treatable.
The bleeding stopping is good news, but it doesn't rule out a serious cause. Ask your vet whether an abdominal ultrasound could help, what the biopsy involves, and what the treatment options would be for each possible result, so you can decide what's right for Tippy. The leaking urine may be a separate issue, such as incontinence.
See blood in dog stool for common causes.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
