Reader Question
My 12 year old spayed female has been treated by her vet for a UTI. She is having bladder control problems that's how we knew she had something wrong, she has never had a accident in the house. she will be sleeping and wake up with a wet spot under her.She sleeps so sound she has no idea what she has done. We made special places for her to sleep. She is taken her antibiotics and seemed to improve know still on, she is on round two of antibiotics the second ones is a different one and she is starting to have accidents again. Today she has had two and yet she can go all night long and wake up dry every morning and she can go a few days at a time with no accidents. I don't understand how she can go for such long periods of times and have no accidents and then have two in one day. I just started giving her Bladder Support senior care made by NaturVet. Do you have any suggestions or ideas that I can try ?
Answer from Our Team
Waking in a wet spot fits urethral sphincter weakness, which is common in older spayed females and can be made worse by a bladder infection. Infections can also come back, so ask your vet for a urine culture after the antibiotics finish.
If the infection is cleared and she still leaks, medication usually controls it well. Bladder support supplements aren't proven to help.
