Scuff Mark on the Center of a Dog's Eye

Reader Question
Just noticed what looks like a scuff mark on our 5 year old dog's eye. I close his eye and rub it to see if it was just a sleeper in his eye but it didn't move. What can it be?

Answer from Our Team

A mark that doesn't wipe away may be a scratch or ulcer, a scar from an old injury, or deposits in the cornea. Rubbing the eye can make an ulcer worse, so please avoid touching it.

Have a vet stain the eye soon, and go the same day if he squints, tears or rubs it.

See cloudy eyes in dogs and eye ulcers in dogs.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
