Reader Question
Near my 8 year old Chihuahuas vagina are 2 growths. They look like sacks that fill up. One has gone down but not the other one yet. She is lively, eats well and urinates ok. Your opinion?

Answer from Our Team

Fluid-filled swellings near the vulva that come and go may be cysts, swollen skin folds, or swellings related to the mammary glands or heat cycle if she isn't spayed. Mammary tumors are common in unspayed older females and can start near the rear mammary glands.

Have your vet examine them and do a needle sample. Tell your vet whether she's spayed, when she was last in heat, and when the swellings change size.

See lumps and bumps on dogs.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
