Rottweiler With a Swollen Eyelid After a Sneezing Fit

Duke's eye

Duke's eye

Reader Question
My rottweiler, Duke, recently had a sneeze attack followed by inflammation of his eyelid on one eye. I have already given him Clavamox and eye ointment. It seems to be slowly getting worse. It is puffier toward the inner eyelid now. In the picture it looks like his eye is shut but its not. It doesn't even seem to be bothering him at all.

Answer from Our Team

Swelling of one eyelid near the inner corner after sneezing can come from an irritant, an allergy, an inflamed tear duct, something stuck in the nose or tear duct, an upper tooth root infection or, in older dogs, a nasal growth. Rottweilers can also have eyelid conformation problems.

Since it's slowly getting worse despite antibiotics, please go back to your vet. Mention the sneezing, because nasal problems can affect the tear duct and the eye on the same side.
