Ringworm That Hasn't Responded to Treatment

When ringworm doesn't respond, the first question is whether it's really ringworm. Several conditions look similar, including bacterial skin infection, demodex mites and immune-related skin disease. Ask your vet whether the diagnosis was confirmed by culture or PCR.
If it was confirmed, ask about treatment length, since ringworm usually needs treatment until tests are negative, often 6 to 12 weeks, plus whole-body rinses and cleaning at home. A biopsy or referral to a dermatologist is reasonable for lesions that scar over.
