Red Sore Rash After a Dog Attacked a Fox

by Lisa

Reader Question
My dog attacked a fox in our garden a couple of months ago and now his goy this horrible red sore rash could it be mange and how do we treat it

Answer from Our Team

Foxes commonly carry sarcoptic mange (scabies), so a red, sore rash in the weeks to couple of months after contact makes scabies a strong possibility, especially if he's very itchy. It spreads to other dogs and can cause a temporary itchy rash in people, and any other dogs in the home usually need treating too.

See your vet soon. Effective prescription treatments clear it, and skin scrapings can be negative even when mites are present.
