Red Belly Rash That Comes and Goes

Reader Question
This is my friends dog whom I am babysitting for a week. The last time he went out of town she stayed with a sitter and had a rash on her belly when he got home. He says it eases up in redness here and there. She does not appear to be uncomfortable, and does not scratch or lick the area. Was just curious what you all thought it might be. A quick trip to the vet may be in order but I would like to see if I can take care of it myself before he comes home. Thanks

Answer from Our Team

A non-itchy red belly rash that appeared after a stay with a sitter could be contact irritation from new bedding, cleaning products or grass, or a mild infection.

Wash her belly gently with plain water and keep her off the suspect surfaces. If it spreads or doesn't settle in a few days, a vet check is a good idea.
