Reader Suggestion: Homeopathic Remedies for a Torn ACL

(St. Louis Mo)

Reader Question
I have treated two dogs with torn or ruptured ACL's and it is a long term treatment but can avoid surgery and both address and heal ligament. I being a human have an acl problem and do the same treatment and I am pain free and only have a twinge of pain dependent on the movement.

Answer from Our Team

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're glad your dogs improved. However, there's no good scientific evidence that homeopathic remedies heal a torn cruciate ligament in dogs. Small dogs in particular often improve with rest alone as scar tissue forms, which can make any remedy appear to work.

Torn cruciate ligaments don't grow back together. Readers should have their dog examined, discuss surgical and non-surgical options with their vet, and not rely on homeopathy for pain relief.
