Reader Question
my dog is a 10 year old jack russell/ mini fox terrior cross. she has developed a rash under her front right leg, there are also two lumps that have developed as well. One of them is free and covered by loose, flappy skin.she has also had swelling in the face and neck which is soft to touch and not painful, this goes down then flairs up again. blood tests have shown anaemia. her appetite doesn't appear to be affected. she often scatches her eyes. anti-inflammatories and anti-biotics don't seem to have made any difference. she also has some teeth that need to be removed. are these connected? what treatment would you suggest?
Answer from Our Team
Anemia, lumps and recurring facial swelling together need a thorough work-up rather than more anti-inflammatories. Dental disease can cause facial swelling, and lumps should be sampled.
Ask your vet to aspirate the lumps and investigate the anemia, and to treat the bad teeth. These may or may not be connected.
See skin rashes in dogs and lumps and bumps on dogs.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
