Puppy Bitten Near the Eye With Matted Discharge and Swelling

Reader Question
puppy 9 weeks old accidentally bitten by another pup and her eye is matted with discharge, and there is a fluid ball under eyelid near upper cheekbone area

Answer from Our Team

A bite near the eye with discharge and a fluid-filled swelling under the lid may be an abscess, and the eye itself could have been scratched or punctured. Please have her seen today; puppies can get sick quickly from bite infections, and eye punctures need prompt treatment.

Until then, gently clean with lukewarm water or saline, don't squeeze the swelling, and prevent her from rubbing.
