Poop Looks Like It's Wrapped in Plastic

A shiny, clear or whitish film that makes poop look wrapped in plastic is usually mucus. A small amount now and then can be normal, but a coating that keeps appearing, or comes with softer stools, usually means the large intestine is irritated (colitis).
Common causes are stress, a diet change, scavenging and parasites such as whipworms or Giardia. If your dog is otherwise well, watch for a day or two. Call your vet if it lasts more than 2 days, keeps coming back, or there's blood, diarrhea, vomiting or loss of appetite. Take a fresh stool sample with you.
