One Episode of Blood in Loose Stool in a Dog Acting Normal
by cindy

A single spot of fresh blood with loose stool in a dog who is eating, drinking and acting normally is often from mild colitis, for example after eating something unusual or stress.
Watch closely for 24 hours. Call your vet if it happens again or the diarrhea continues, and go right away if there's a lot of blood, black stool, vomiting, weakness or pale gums.
Our page on blood in dog stool explains what to watch for.
