No Bowel Movement for Three Days After a Ruptured Anal Gland
Dogs often hold their stool after an anal gland rupture because passing it hurts, and some pain medicines also slow the bowel. Holding it makes the stool drier and harder, which hurts more, so it's worth breaking the cycle.
Since it's been three days, call the vet who treated him. They can check that the wound is healing and may recommend a stool softener. Don't give human laxatives or an enema at home. In the meantime, encourage water, add water or canned food to his meals, and take him on gentle walks. Go back sooner if he's straining without success, vomiting, not eating, or if the area becomes more swollen or starts to smell.
