Mother Dog Hasn't Pooped for 2 Days After Giving Birth
Thanks
It's fairly common for a new mother not to poop for a day or two after giving birth, especially if she ate little in the day or so before and during labor. Once she's eating and drinking well, her bowels usually return to normal.
Make sure she has plenty of fresh water and is eating a good-quality puppy or nursing food. Call your vet if she still hasn't passed stool by tomorrow, or sooner if she strains, vomits, won't eat, has a fever, seems weak or uninterested in her puppies, or has a foul-smelling or heavy discharge from her vulva. These can be signs of a retained puppy or placenta, infection, or other problems after birth.
See dog constipation.
