Miniature Schnauzer With Mucus and Fresh Blood in His Stool
by Alejandra

Mucus followed by a little fresh blood is typical of colitis, irritation of the large intestine. In a dog who is bright and eating well, it's often mild. A homemade diet that isn't balanced, a supplement, stress or parasites can play a part.
Call your vet, and go the same day if there's a lot of blood, vomiting, lethargy or he stops eating. Miniature Schnauzers are also prone to pancreatitis and to a severe form of bloody diarrhea (acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome), so watch for sudden, jelly-like bloody diarrhea. Ask your vet whether his homemade diet is complete and balanced.
