Miniature Pinscher Scratching His Ears and Tail
by Pamela
Thank You, Pamela
Constant scratching at the ears and tail is more often a sign of allergy or parasites than of dry skin alone. Itching around the tail and lower back is a classic sign of flea allergy, and ear itching is common with environmental and food allergies. Ear mites or an ear infection can also return.
Your vet can check his ears and skin for mites, yeast and bacteria, and talk with you about year-round flea control and allergy testing or a food trial. Lotions and creams can't fix an allergy, and dogs often lick them off. Don't use human products without asking your vet.
