How to Stop a Dog Scratching a Red Eye

The quickest way to stop a dog scratching an eye is a cone (Elizabethan collar), available from your vet or a pet store. Scratching can injure the eye's surface and make things worse.
A red eye that a dog keeps scratching needs a vet check to find the cause, such as an allergy, a foreign body or a scratch on the cornea.
See conjunctivitis in dogs and dog eye infections.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
