Answer from Our Team

If her temperature is high after heat or exercise, cool her right away: move her somewhere cool, pour cool or cold tap water (not ice) over her body, use a fan, stop cooling once she reaches about 103°F (39.4°C) or starts shivering, and go to a vet, because heat stroke can be deadly.

If she hasn't been in the heat, a high temperature is more likely a fever from infection or inflammation, and she needs a vet exam. Please don't give human fever medicines such as ibuprofen, aspirin or acetaminophen, which can be toxic to dogs.

See dog panting for heat stroke first aid.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
