How Long Should a Puppy With Parvo Be Isolated?
by Margarita
Dogs with parvo start shedding the virus in their feces a few days before they look sick and keep shedding through the illness and for about 10 days to 2 weeks or more after they recover. Keep the puppy away from other dogs for the whole illness and for at least 2 weeks after recovery, and away from unvaccinated dogs and puppies for about a month.
Once shedding has stopped, give the puppy a bath to remove virus from the coat. Remove all feces, wash with detergent and water, then disinfect the areas where it stayed with a product that kills parvo, such as accelerated hydrogen peroxide or fresh household bleach mixed 1 part to 30 parts water, kept wet for about 10 minutes. The virus can survive in the environment for months, so any other dogs at home should be fully vaccinated.
