High Liver Enzyme in a Shih Tzu: Is It Cushing's?
A high liver enzyme (often alkaline phosphatase) is common in dogs with Cushing's, but it can also come from liver disease, some medicines and other illnesses. Specialists recommend testing for Cushing's only if a dog also has signs such as heavy drinking, a big appetite, panting or a pot belly.
For a urine sample, use a clean, shallow container or a ladle held under her while she urinates, ideally first thing in the morning, and take it to the vet within a few hours or refrigerate it.
