Reader Question
WE FOUND OUR GOLDEN RETRIEVER VERY SAD WITH ONE OF HIS EYES %90 CLOSED AND WE TRIED TO OPEN IT BUT HE DIDNT LET US. THEN AFTER 4 DAYS (APPROX. 85 HOURS PASSED)WE TOOK HIM TO OUR VETERINARY DOCTOR. HE APPLIED GENERAL ANESTHESIA AND OPENED HIS EYE AND SAW THE GRASS STUCKED IN THE WHITE PART OF HIS EYE. HE TOOK IT OFF. AND NOW WE USE NEO-KORT EYE DROP AND ALSO ANTIHISTEMINIC INJECTION. HIS EYE LOOKS BLUE GRAY AS IF HE CANNOT SEE. I WOULD LIKE TO GET YOUR PRECIOUS ADVICES IF POSSIBLE. ANYTHING YOU RECOMMEND WILL BE APPRECIATED.

Answer from Our Team

A blue-gray, cloudy eye after a grass awn was stuck there for several days usually means the cornea is swollen with fluid (corneal edema), often because it was scratched or ulcerated. It can also mean infection or inflammation inside the eye.

Ask your vet to stain the eye within a day, before you continue the Neo-Kort, because steroid drops on an ulcerated cornea can make it soften and deepen. Many corneas clear well once they heal, but go back promptly if the eye gets more painful, cloudier or starts to bulge.

See dog eye infections and eye ulcers in dogs.
