Frequent Red, Goopy Eyes With a Blister and the Eye Now Closed

Reader Question
My dog has frequent eye irritation. Gets red and goopy. Looks like he has a blister on part of his eye ball. It is closed today. What can I do to help my very best friend?

Answer from Our Team

An eye that's now closed is painful and needs a vet today. A blister-like spot on the eye can be a deep ulcer, a cyst or a growth, and some of these can worsen quickly.

Frequent red, goopy eyes often have an underlying cause, such as dry eye, allergies or eyelid and eyelash problems, which is worth tackling once this episode is treated.
