Reader Question
My daughter has noticed her new puupy has fecal and urinary incontinence,he dribbles urine and goes to the toilet in his sleep.I read a article on here and I think he must of been born with nerve damage ,not sure what we can do to help him ,we put nappies on him for inside the house but let him run around as often as possible without nappies. We now know he has special needs and will do whatever we can to help him.We took him to vets for his needles and vet said early days yet and all we can do just yet is keep an eye on things and he may require mri
Answer from Our Team
Leaking both urine and stool in a young French Bulldog can come from a spinal problem, which is more common in screw-tailed breeds, or from other birth defects such as an ectopic ureter. It's worth asking your vet for a referral to a specialist for a neurological exam and imaging, rather than waiting.
Meanwhile, keep his skin clean and dry to prevent urine scald, change diapers often, and give him plenty of chances to go outside.
