Fluid-Filled Lump That Came Back After Being Drained

Reader Question
Just notice the return of an odd growth just under the skin, underneath side of left hip, on my 11-year-old male sheltie DJ. First time we saw it, the vet drained out clear liquid. We decided to not get a biopsy but to just watch for reoccurrence. Neither of us had any idea how it got there or what it was. Will make vet appointment yet am wondering if you have ever seen such. Picture attached.
Answer from Our Team
A lump that yields clear fluid is often a cyst or a fluid pocket (seroma), and these often refill after draining. That's common and usually not serious.
If it keeps returning, removal with biopsy is often the permanent fix. Ask your vet to sample the fluid and any solid tissue.
