Fleas on Pets, in the Home and in the Yard
We're sorry your family and pets are going through this. Flea infestations are miserable, and they can be beaten. Unfortunately, apple cider vinegar in drinking water doesn't get rid of fleas, so we'd suggest putting your effort into the steps that do work.
First, treat every dog and cat in the home with a flea product your vet recommends for each animal, even pets that don't seem itchy. Use products only on the species they're made for, because some dog flea products are very dangerous to cats. Keep using the treatment as often as the label or your vet directs, because new fleas keep hatching for weeks.
Second, treat your home. Vacuum carpets, furniture and floors often, including under furniture, and throw the vacuum bag or contents away outside. Wash pet bedding and blankets in hot water. Your vet can recommend an indoor product if you need one. Third, for the yard, focus on shady spots where your pets rest.
It usually takes about 6 weeks to 3 months to clear an infestation completely, so don't be discouraged if you still see a few fleas at first. If your pets are very itchy or their skin is sore, a vet visit can help them feel better faster. If cost is a worry, ask your vet about a payment plan, or look for a low-cost clinic, humane society clinic or veterinary school near you.
