Ear Mites That Keep Coming Back in a Puppy

Reader Question
I have a 4 month old Pit Bull that has ear mites, I've tried OTC treatments, and home remedies, but they keep coming back. Help me get rid of these annoying buggers for good.

Answer from Our Team

Ear mites are common in puppies and spread easily between pets. They often come back because other animals in the home aren't treated, the treatment isn't continued long enough, or the problem was actually a yeast or bacterial infection rather than mites.

Ask your vet to confirm mites under the microscope. Several prescription spot-on and oral parasite products treat ear mites effectively; treat every dog and cat in the household at the same time, using a product suitable for each animal's species and age. Your vet can also clean the ears and treat any secondary infection.
