Reader Question
My 11 yr old female German Shepherd has a spot on her back, approx 2 inches to the left of her spine above her back leg. The surrounding area of approx 2 inches is dry and flaky. See attached photo. Can you tell me what this might be?
Answer from Our Team
A dry, flaky area around a spot could be a skin infection, a crusty growth, or a reaction around a lump. It's hard to say without seeing it in person.
Have your vet look at it, and ask for a skin scraping or cytology, or an aspirate if there's a lump under it.
See lumps and bumps on dogs.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
