Dog's Eye Turned Blue and Sunken After Being Hit by a Dirt Ball

Reader Question
My son threw a dirt ball and it hit our dog in the eye. Now it looks like her eye is back in her head and part of it is a blue cloudy color. What should a do? Let it heal on its own or put some drops in it?

Answer from Our Team

Please take her to a vet today rather than waiting or using drops. A blow to the eye can scratch the cornea or cause bleeding or inflammation inside the eye, and the blue cloudiness is likely swelling of the cornea. An eye that looks pulled back can be a sign of pain.

Your vet will stain the eye for scratches and check the pressure. Don't use leftover drops, especially steroid drops, which can make an ulcer much worse.
