Dog Yelps While Pooping After Whipworm Treatment
Whipworms live in the large intestine, and the inflammation they cause can leave a dog sore when passing stool for a while after treatment. Anal gland problems and constipation are other common causes of pain while pooping.
Whipworms are also hard to clear: their eggs survive in the environment for a long time, and a single dose often isn't enough, so vets usually repeat the treatment over several weeks to months, on a schedule your vet will set. Please let your vet know about the pain. They can check her anal glands and rectum, recheck a stool sample, and make sure the follow-up deworming is scheduled. Go sooner if she strains without producing anything, stops eating again, or you see blood.
